She wanted to be like Kareena Kapoor, and “could not wait to act in a movie”. In her last year of college, she “got offers from casting directors who would scout for faces in campuses and on Facebook”. But her “well-to-do” Mumbai-based Kashmiri Muslim family would not allow her to take up any film job unless it was offered by Yash Chopra’s YRF (Yash Raj Films). That was in 2012.

Two years on, Murcyleen Peerzada, a 23-year-old Kashmiri woman based in Mumbai, does not idolise Kareena. She now dreams of  “being like Yasmin Mogahed”, an Egypt-born American preacher known for her talks and articles on Islam.

Tamil Actress Monika converts to Islam and quits cinema

Chennai: The popular Tamil film actress Monika who is known for her films like ‘Azhagi’ and ‘Silanthi’  has converted to Islam and her new name is M G Rahima. The actress has acted in more than 70 films as heroine and child artist.

Monika’s parents are Christians and the actress says hereafter she won’t be acting in films. Monika also says that there is no selfishness in her decision to convert to Islam.

Monika started her career as a child artist in Avasara Police 100. She is also popular  in other South Indian film industries like Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

प्लीज मलाई पूजा नभन्नु आमिना भन्नुहोस्

नेपालकी प्रख्यात अभिनेत्री ३१ वर्षीया पूजा लामाले लगभग तीन बर्ष पहिले  इस्लाम धर्म स्वीकार गर्नु भयो। उनले इस्लाम धर्म स्वीकार गर्दा भारत र नेपालका कयौं व्यक्ति अचम्ममा परेका थिए। बौद्ध परिवारमा जन्मेकी, बौद्ध संस्कार अनुसार हुर्के-बढेकी पूजा लामाले काठमाण्डौमा इस्लाम धर्म स्वीकार गरेकी थिइन। त्यसबखत पूजा लामासँग अब्दुस्सबूर नदवीले गर्नु भएको कुराकानीको प्रमुख  अंशः

कुन चीजबाट प्रभावित भएर तपाईले इस्लाम स्वीकार गर्नु भयो  ? 

म बौद्ध परिवारमा जन्मेकी हुँ। मैले इस्लाम धर्मको अध्ययन गर्ने इच्छा गरें। अनि हिन्दु, ईसाई र इस्लाम धर्मको तुलनात्मक रूपमा अध्ययन पनि गरें । विभिन्न धर्मको अध्ययनपछि म कतार र दुबईमा पनि गएकी थिएं र वहाँ इस्लामिक सभ्यताबाट धेरै प्रभावित भएँ । इस्लामको एउटा धेरै ठूलो विशेषता एक ईश्वरलाई मान्नु र उनैमा पूर्ण रुपले विश्वास गर्नु रहेछ। एक ईश्वरको विषयमा यस्तो बलियो विश्वास मैले अरु धर्ममा देखिन। पूरा संसारको मिडिया इस्लामको विरुद्ध दुष्प्रचार गरिरहेका छन् र इस्लामलाई आंतकवाद बढाउने धर्मको रूपमा पेश गरिरहेका छन्।
